IN-HOUSE REVIEW (Part 2)

Posted in Nursing Adventure with tags , , , , , , , , , on October 29, 2012 by nursemihoko

My mom always told me to ask for the divine intervention and guidance from God. I remember one time when I don’t feel like going to church, she said that I can’t go anywhere nor can get my goals in life if I don’t know how to sacrifice even just an hour for God.

Maybe you guys are curious now of what’s the connection with my introduction to my review right?

Well, it’s simple…

She’s right (my mom). PRAYER is the first key to pass the exam. Preparation like studying is next.

Those times when I was so nervous, worried and not sure of what to answer… prayers saved me.  The exam was really hard. There were items in the test that really brought me into nothingness… like WTH is this?! I didn’t meet this during our nursing lectures! Oh my! And so I remember my mom, she said, LOOK UP.. and ASK Him..” Ask and it shall be given”

You may not believe this but, during my review..it’s  like I was the most idiot and has the lowest score in the group. I  always got so many mistakes hahaha.. poor me.. >.<

image

But I never give up.. I tried harder, read more, studied more, and had prayed harder. I never tried to compare my scores to my reviewmates but rather I’ve challenged myself more to be better the next time around and never forget to correct all my mistakes.

I went to different churches in Cebu like Carmelites and Basilica del Sto. Ninio.

I would love to share with you my prayer before the exam..

Lord, today I am just really stressed. You know, Lord, that I am having some trouble with the test I am about to take. I know it’s probably not the biggest world problem, with people starving, people turning away from you, people in wars, and more. But, Lord, it’s what I’m facing right now, and I need you at this time. I know that no problem is too big or too small for you to handle, and I need to turn this stress over to you to help me with.

Lord, I just need to be able to focus. I need your help to look at this information so I can remember and apply it well on my exam. I need you to help me feel more confident going into the test and relax a bit so I can concentrate. Lord, please help the people around me to understand that I need to focus and study.

Also, Lord, help me when I walk into the exam. Give me the peace, when it is all said and done, to know that I walked in and did my best. I pray, Lord, for your guiding hand as I take the exam, and I ask for your welcome calm when I walk out of the classroom after.

Lord, thank you for all the blessings you have placed in my life. Thank you for being here at this time when I feel a bit overwhelmed. Thank you for always being there and allowing me to rely on you. Praise your name. Amen.

My Nursing Adventure

Posted in Nursing Adventure with tags , , , , , on October 29, 2012 by nursemihoko

Several words come to mind when I think about my four years in nursing school:determination, hard work, maturity, and responsibility. All of these words exemplify the personality of a student nurse. When I entered school for nursing, I was always told it was going to be challenging, with long study hours and the responsibility of people’s lives in your hands. Although the thought was scary I was determined to get through it. The truth about being a student nurse, to put it simply, is that it is difficult. I have never met someone who goes through nursing school and says it was easy and not at all challenging. Being a student nurse before  taught me all different kinds of responsibility and has helped me with my personal life more than any experience I have been through. It has shown me I can do anything that I put my mind to and I have become a much more mature person through my experiences at school, at clinical, and working in the hospital as an extern. Through my experience I have realized that it takes a certain person to be a nurse—someone who has the drive to succeed in life, wants to help people, deeply cares about others, and is patient and understanding.

-during my 2nd year college, FIRST RLE DUTY, PSH medical ward –

-3rd year college – PSYCHIA rotation-

– 4th year – SOGOD (out of town duty) graveyard shift, pedia ward –

– 4th year college, ECSH delivery room)

My decision to become a nurse will forever be a choice made for me. Not a day goes by when I don’t think, “What the heck did I get myself into? Do I really want to be a nurse?” In my times of worrying how much I might not have what it takes, I remind myself of days past. Days where patients’ simple words of encouragement and gratitude touched my life are more than the fading memories of time I spent at their bedside.

My greatest tip for future nursing students: Know yourself and why you are becoming a nurse. If care over cure is the foundation of nursing education, then build your studying around that principle. The vast amount of information that incorporates the nursing curriculum will never be fully remembered, but prioritizing what is important and what will make a difference for your patients should be burned into memory. You determine your goals and outcomes, so study hard to make it worth your while. Nursing is about caring for the needs of others, so forget the overachievers who want to beat out everyone, and study for your own future patients. Studying isn’t a competition; it is part of the job description. Ask yourself why you care about this profession, and do what makes you happy. The studying will naturally fall into place if the dedication is there.

Kimmy’s Ringhop

09242012. Wearing the official CIT-U  ring is a wonderful way to commemorate the achievement of attaining a degree as a symbol of an academic success. Kimmy is my second-degree cousin (mom’s side). She is a 5th year Civil Engineering student and I’m proud of her ^_^

Her mom invited me to join the ceremony. And I accepted the invitation gladly. ❤
